1. TRADES
Judging trades for fairness will be one of the hardest tasks an ownership group will have to undertake. Trades are completely subjective to individually opinion. And a good trade to one team may be an unfair one to another team. The main thing an owner should keep in mind when keeping trades fair, is that the trade should improve both teams somehow in some way. If it doesn't it should not be allowed to go through. This is harder to do in dynasty leagues because you have to judge players for future seasons. Poor trading environments have literally killed fantasy baseball leagues. Please engage in trading that makes your team better.
1.1 Teams are allowed unlimited trades throughout the season, subject to League ownership approval, during the season up until the trade deadline. The trade deadline will be set by the commissioner.
1.2 Trades are considered officially agreed upon by both sides once both sides have posted the trade on the ProBoard and have provided justifying comments on the trade discussion thread. This commits both teams to the trade; at this point, the trade cannot be withdrawn except by mutual agreement of both teams.
1.3 To ensure a fair and consistent trade review, once posted on the ProBoard site, the following steps will be followed: (1) both teams will explain their reasons for the trade; (2) after step 1 is complete, league owners may present their points of view on the trade with a 24-hours discussion period, following rules of good sportsmanship; (3) after step 2, a 48-hour vote period will be allowed to complete the trade. Trade veto will require 50% of teams not involved in the trade. Since we are a 17 team league, 15 teams are voting. In the event a trade consists of an odd number of teams, the veto number will be still be 50% by rounding down total voters to the next lowest whole number. After 48 hours, the trade will be approved if sufficient votes to veto it are not present. Following owner approval, the trade is final and will be submitted for processing on the Yahoo site (if during the season) by the Yahoo commissioner, typically within 24 hours of approval.
Trade review discussion should consider the following issues:
a. Does the trade help both teams in some way (short term or long term)?
b. Is the trade unfair?
c. Is there a sign of collusion?
1.4 No trade will be allowed that puts a team's roster size to exceed the roster size at the time of the trade. At no time can a player owned by one team be held on another owner’s roster (delayed trade).
1.5 No two part trades or players to be named later are allowed.
1.6 No trades between two owners within a 7 day period.
1.7 During the 7 days prior to a draft, during a draft or prior to a scheduled roster reduction, the trade process can be accelerated to a 24 hour trade-approval process, in which case discussion times can be condensed, but all normal steps will still be followed. League council would make that decision publicly.
1.8 When posting you’re agreed upon trade, please provide information regarding the trade to best inform the league of your thought process. Quality posts during this period can help to alleviate the "huh's? and why's? of a trade". Please take this explanation seriously.
2. FREE-AGENT ELIGIBILITY
2.1 Major League Free Agents: All Yahoo database registered, unowned major league players who have cleared waivers are considered Major League Players and free agents, available to be picked up by any team on a first-come, first-serve basis on the League Yahoo site and in accordance with the rules of Yahoo Fantasy Baseball. There will be no limit to the amount of free agents a manager can pick up over the course of a season. Owners must verify that the player being picked up is not listed as property of another owner on the Minor Leaguer Roster List. Free Agents are available from the completion of the Major League Draft until the last day of the regular season.
2.2 Minor League Free Agents: All unowned minor league players at the time of pickup are free agents and are available to be picked up by any league team on a first-come, first-serve basis by adding the player(s) by posting the change on the Minor League Transaction thread. Required information for posting on the MLML thread: (a) correct thread (b) correct spelling, position and MLB affiliation. Failure to provide accurate information may result in the release of the player by the Council and eligible for immediate free agency or possibly be claimed by another team. There will be times when a player has variations in name structure or spelling and will be resolved by the Council in case of a protest. Please provide as much information in cases such as this. Once a player is in the Yahoo database, they are considered Major League players until the end of the regular season.
2.3 Minor league free agent pickup periods:
a. From the completion of the MiLB draft and expiration of the waiver wire period through the last day of the regular Yahoo MLB season.
b. During the off-season, one minor league player per week (Sunday-Saturday MST) can be picked up by each team. No pickups allowed during the Minor League Expansion Draft.
2.4 Minor League players are defined as players in organized minor league baseball. This excludes players in high school, college, foreign players who are posted (Japan) or yet to sign as free agents with an organized minor league team.
2.5 International players or defection players that are signed to a bonafide minor league baseball contract are frozen for pick up onto minor league rosters. These players become available for ownership in the amateur draft immediately following the players signing of a MiLB/MLB contract. If the player is drafted in the MiLB draft, and they are over the MiLB restrictions, they must be promoted to the MLB roster immediately. If the player goes undrafted, they enter the free agent pool.
3 5-Player Amateur Draft:
Each year in August Major League Baseball holds its annual New Player Draft. Basically college and high school players that have never played professional baseball are eligible for this draft. Because this event represents a whole new player pool that will be eligible for ownership on our league's minor league rosters, we hold an annual 5-Player Draft. This Draft takes its name from the simple fact that each manager will get to select 5 players from the pool of eligible draftees from the MLB New Player Draft. We will hold this draft sometime between the MLB signing deadline (the signing deadline represents the final timeline that MLB clubs have to sign those new players selected in the New Player Draft) and the end of the regular season.
We also incorporate international players that have signed with MLB organizations. International players that sign with an MLB club are ineligible for pick-up (in either Yahoo for our major league teams or on the proboard on our minor league teams) until after our league's 5-player draft. In other words, after we hold our first 5-player draft, no league manager can pick up an international player that signs after that 5-player draft. However, if an international player is signed before our 5-player draft and goes undrafted by our managers, that player becomes eligible to be picked-up in either Yahoo or on the proboard on a manager's minor league roster.
Similarly, in the rare event that a MLB team drafts, signs, and promotes a player to the major league roster that was drafted in the New Player Draft before our league's 5-Player Draft, that player cannot be picked up through the waiver process. An example of this occurring is LHP Chris Sale that was drafted during the 2011 New Player Draft by the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox, signed him quickly and started him immediately on the AAA affiliate. After only 2-weeks of professional ball, they promoted him in early August to the parent club.
Each year the specific details of the 5-Player Draft will be determined by the league council.
Annual requirements for the draft are that the order of drafting will be the reverse order of the league standings. The draft will also be conducted in a serpentine fashion.
Affect on team rosters:
During the first year of the league, there will be three different rosters managed by each league owner. There will be the MLB roster managed in the Yahoo database during the MLB season ; there will also be a 10-player minor league team managed via the proboard site; and finally, there will be an additional 5-player minor league roster which will result from the league's 5-Player Draft conducted in the late summer.
The players selected during the 5-Player Draft will remain frozen until the start of the following MLB season. At this point in time, the players held on a team's 5-player roster will be combined with the 10-player minor league roster resulting in a 15-player minor league roster.
4 Promotions/Demotions
A player may be promoted from your MiLB roster to your MLB roster at any time. Once promoted, the player must remain on our MLB roster all season, or be released.
A player may only be demoted to your MiLB roster from your MLB roster if a)it is the offseason, and b) they are below the AB/IP maximums for MiLB eligibility.
